"Nacimos llorando" (Born Crying) is a picture of a friendship twisted by adolescent feelings, of a friendly flirting, of a subdued fraternity, of two best friends who have shared a lifetime together and who are just taking their first steps towards adulthood. In a portrait drawn on questioning, where euphoria and impulses are poured towards desire, doubt, the concern of naming themselves something different from the rest; a rest that is claustrophobic and rural.

The title was taken directly from a poem by Clyo Mendoza, a poet and author from Oaxaca, whose novel "Furia" inspired the ecosystem and the physicality of the land to be explored. The poem begins with a line saying "Nací Llorando" (I was born crying). Absolute truth. But since I wanted to make reference to the fact that our story is about both characters, I changed it to plural.

To make it more universal, a story that in the end has happened to all of us, an unrequited love, a misunderstood "I love you", or an indifferent "no". Maybe we will all be victims of this without escape, regardless if it is queer or not, lovelessness is universal, just as we were all born crying. We were born naked and vulnerable. Maybe we all feel this way when we live love at the surface of our skin. I also liked the fact that the title included the name of one of the songs we used, 'Llorar' ("Crying").
