NEGRITA is a feature documentary about diverse Afro Latinas who explore and confront culture and racism while defining their own identity in the United States. We are exploring the ideology on Blackness. The conflict is that American and Latino cultures perpetuate that Blackness is to be destroyed. Through personal accounts, family pictures, old videos and interactions with family and friends, NEGRITA will depict the director Magdalena Albizu’s own struggle with identity and embracing her African history despite her family’s disapproval while interweaving the accounts of other Afro Latinas experiences. The women come from various countries Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Honduras, and Panama. The women will confront that notion that Black is bad and empower themselves. together, until they find a way to do business by exchanging dollars with their own community of traders. When their boss finds out, their project gets in danger.
