Week Uno's Weekend Kick Off Celebration @ Taller Puertorriqueño
Join us for #PHLAFF2023 Week Uno's Weekend Kick Off Celebration at Taller Puertorriqueño.
Our lineup includes four fabulous selections celebrating personal bonds/journeys, supports and collaborations:
Mario Rubén Carrión's Record Shop is centered on two local New York DJs walking into a Red Hook record shop searching for a rare salsa record, where the record shop clerk shares their love of Caribbean music. As the day unfolds, different dynamics come to the surface between the three of them.
H.J. Leonard's Three Parallel Reflections on the Past is a short shaped like a chronotopic game that investigates the memory of 3 women from Hatillo who oscillate between the present and the past of a (re)imagined Puerto Rico.
Alexis Garcia's Daughter of the Sea shares the spiritual awakening a young woman experiences after the death of her grandfather, when she is called by Yemaya, the orisha Goddess of the Sea.
Fenomenal, Rompeforma 1989-1996 is a documentary film about the experimental Latinx festival Rompeforma—a dance, performance, and visual marathon held in Puerto Rico from 1989 to 1996. Co-directed and produced by [dancers, choreographers, and educators] Merián Soto and Viveca Vázquez, the documentary is edited by Laura Sofía Pérez and includes music by Eduardo Alegria.
